One thing that I regularly do is download copies of my favorite new book covers to keep in an “Inspiration” folder. I also have a Pinterest page for those. I’m looking at those to figure out what I should try next.
Here are a few from my stash:
Although each of these covers have elements that suggest what might be in the books, the star of the cover is the lettering.
Some of these I can look at and recognize the font (Oh, that’s Brilon 1.1! That’s Desire!). Others are a bit of a struggle, but I’m seeing ones that look like they might be in my Classy Font grouping on my Font Manager.
(I love my Font Manager, BTW, which is High Logic MainType.)
This seems to be a strong trend in covers recently, most prevalent in YA and Literary books, but it’s showing up in Fantasy books as well. So the next batch over covers I’ll try (after I finish up the silly steampunk set this week) will definitely being exploring this trend.
(I’ve subscribed to that second blog now, and will be looking through their cover files for some time to come, I suspect. )
